SIKESTON - Forest L. Rudd of Washington, Mo., this week assumed the new duties as assistant superintendent of the Sikeston factory of the International Shoe Co. Rudd has been associated with the company for many years.

BENTON - In Scott County, 14,915 people are registered to vote in the Aug. 17 election. Of those registered, 7,351 are from Sikeston. The deadline for registration for voting was July 20.

SIKESTON - Thomas "Pete" Medley remembers when Mae West sizzled, Humphrey Bogart shot and Marilyn Monroe seduced. He knew all the stars and recalled them Friday as workmen tore down the marquee to the Chaney Harris Cultural Center -formerly the Malone Theater. Fresh out of high school, Medley started work at the Malone Theater in 1927, later to become manager with the introduction to sound in 1930. He had just returned from Akron, Ohio, when he took a "temporary" job there which lasted 42 years.

SIKESTON - High school students from across Missouri recently attended the Missouri Freedom Forum in Cape Girardeau. Tabitha Hughes, April Howard, Pacella Ellitt, Stacie Gooch, Donna Green, Kevin Walters, Shawn Nickell, Forum Director Bob Depro and State Rep. Joe Heckemeyer of Sikeston represented Sikeston High School.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Jaycees sponsored the Little Mr. and Miss Western Contest. Winners were: queen Brooke Smith of Sikeston and king Ben Brown of Portageville.
