Woman seriously burned Saturday

Monday, March 6, 2006

SIKESTON -- An elderly woman was airlifted to the St. John's Mercy Medical Center Burn Center in St. Louis Saturday after a cooking accident.

At approximately 8:53 a.m., the Sikeston Department of Public Safety responded to a call from the apartments on David Drive advising a woman had been burned.

"She was cooking and apparently got her nightgown on the burner," said Lt. Ken Dicus of the DPS.

The woman's polyester-cotton blend nightgown caught on fire resulting in burns over 60 percent of her body, according to Dicus.
