DEXTER - Alice Rebecca Aarant Combest Carney, 88, died March 22, 2006, in the Springfield Rehab and Health Care Center at Springfield.

Born July 22, 1917, at Chidester, Ark., daughter of the late Minor Anthom and Mary Annie Long Aarant, she was a former nurse.

On Jan. 23, 1938, at Dexter, she married James H. Carney who preceded her in death on March 14, 1995.

Also preceding her in death were one daughter, Linda Fulkerson; one stillborn son; four brothers, Herbert Aarant, Loyd Aarant, Harold Aarant and Hoy Aarant; three sisters, Mildred Stevens, Lillian Aarant and Frances Jowers; and two grandchildren.

Survivors include: two sons, James D. Carney and Kenneth L. Carney of Dexter; three daughters, Phyllis Stewart of Dexter, Brenda Eldred of Springfield and Rebecca Carney Stuart of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; one brother, Leonard "Junior" Aarant of Sikeston; and 15 grandchildren, 21 great-

grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First General Baptist Church in Dexter with the Rev. Kenneth Biggs officiating.

Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
