CHARLESTON - Dustin Lee "Dusty" Smoot, 20, died at 12:10 p.m. July 16, 2005, at the intersection of Highway UU and Highway D, five miles south of Charleston from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born Dec. 28, 1984, at Sikeston, son of Richard Lee and Deborah Kay Smotherman Smoot of rural Charleston, he had lived in the rural Charleston area all of his life and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Charleston. A 2003 graduate of Charleston High School, he was a member of the Bluejay baseball team and currently was attending the University of Missouri-Columbia where he had completed his second year. He was employed with Tiger Ice Co. in Columbia.
Surviving in addition to his parents are one brother, Jordan Ray Smoot of Charleston, and his maternal grandmother, Lillie Adams Smotherman of Charleston.
His paternal grandparents, Billy Neal and Patsy Jane Cherry Smoot, and his maternal grandfather, Cortell "Ted" Smotherman, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Keith Huffman, interim pastor of the First Baptist Church of Charleston, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Travis McCann, Kerry Davis, Nelson French, Jason Palmer, Marcus Dixon, Bates Smoot, Eric Toman and Josh Payne.
