CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Sikeston junior varsity basketball team improved to 9-3 on the season with a 54-25 victory against Perryville in the Cape Central Junior Varsity Tournament.
Sikeston jumped out to a 16-6 first quarter lead and never looked back, taking a 33-13 halftime lead and a 50-21 edge at the end of three.
Sikeston was led by Brandon Washington's 16 points, eight rebounds, five steals and two blocked shots.
James Bonner had 14 points. He also had nine rebounds and three steals.
Stephen Jackson followed up with seven points. Michael Payne had five points and five steals.
POPLAR BLUFF -- The Sikeston freshman basketball team fell to 7-2 on the season with a 51-37 loss to Poplar Bluff in the Poplar Bluff Ninth Grade Tournament.
Sikeston had defeated Poplar Bluff twice this season, but the Mules got 22 points from Riley Rallston to pull out the victory in the teams' third meeting.
Poplar Bluff led after every quarter, taking a 10-7 lead after one and a 24-17 lead into halftime.
Sikeston was led by Richard Andrews' 21 points, including three 3-pointers. Dominic Fondon followed up with 10 points and Demetrious Jackson had five points.
