Sikeston man injured in pursuit

SIKESTON -- A Sikeston man was injured in a car accident while being pursued by police Sunday afternoon in Stoddard County.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 4:38 p.m. on County Road 518, four miles northwest of Sikeston, as westbound motorist Rickey V. Nelson, 47, of Sikeston was being pursued by a Sikeston Department of Public Safety officer. Nelson lost control of his vehicle on a gravel road, ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, ran off the left side of the road and overturned in a ditch, partially ejecting him from the vehicle.

Nelson was air lifted to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
