SIKESTON - In a picture featured on the front page of the Jan. 5 paper are two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Cantrell, 67, and Mrs. Alice Kellett, 65, of Sikeston, who were shown examining a deluge of Christmas mail received after an anonymous friend wrote to a St. Louis paper about them.

SIKESTON - Arturo Partricio Leight, 27, of Vina del Mar, Chile, will arrive Jan. 20 for a two-week English teaching assignment at Sikeston High School.

SIKESTON - A $100 contribution was donated to the Kenny Rogers Cerebral Palsy Center Monday afternoon by First Federal of Southeast Missouri of Cape Girardeau. The employees of the business participated in a Halloween costume contest with customers voting on the best costume by contributing money for the cause.

ASPEN, Colo. - According to an autopsy report, Michael Kennedy, the 39-

year-old son of the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy, suffered "instantaneous and incapacitating" injuries from his fatal crash into a tree while playing a game of football on skis at Aspen Mountain on New Years Eve.


MORLEY - While most sports fans were watching the NFL playoffs on Saturday afternoon, some locals went to see the visiting Ellington Whippets defeat Scott Count Central, 81-78.


CARUTHERSVILLE - At its final meeting of the year, the Pemiscot County Commission and the Criminal Investigation Fund Board approved funding to begin a K-9 program for the Pemiscot County Sheriff's office.
