CARTERVILLE, Ill. -- Clifton O. Helton Jr., 76, died at 7:45 a.m. Feb. 6, 2006, at his home.
Born Dec. 17, 1929, in Morehouse, Mo., to the late Clifton O. and Christine Palmer Helton, he was a member of Carbondale Church of God and retired from the Physical Plant at SIUC where he had worked as a carpenter foreman for 34 years.
On Oct. 6, 1950, at Murphysboro, he married V. Maxine Helton, who preceded him in death on June 14, 2005.
One son, Mark Helton; and one sister, Jean Huff, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include: three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Marsha Helton of Herrin, Joe and Cindy Helton and David and Barbara Helton all of Carterville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Louise and Richard Morehead of DeSoto and Chris "Cricket" and Michael Sanders of Goreville; 16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; his stepfather, Dan Crain of Carbondale; and one sister, Elline Long of Carbondale.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Bishop Manuel Jackson and the Rev. Don Colson will officiate.
Burial will be at Murdale Gardens of Memory in Murphysboro.
