SIKESTON - Geraldine Mehrie of Sikeston, Route 1 was wearing a big smile and proudly displaying her winning lottery ticket she purchased Monday afternoon at Helmes Quick Sak on West Malone. Mrs. Mehrie was richer by $860 and the first "big" winner reported in Sikeston.

SIKESTON -The Sikeston Mercantile Bank, which won a VCR in a raffle conducted by the Eagles Club, in turn donated the VCR to the Kenny Rogers Cerebral Palsy Center in Sikeston.


SIKESTON - According to Lt. Dave Hart with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, there have been 2,280 pounds of processed marijuana removed through vehicle stops. The Patrol, other law enforcement agencies and the Missouri National Guard eradicated more than 53 million marijuana plants growing in Missouri during 1995. Of those, Troop E confiscated 3,253 plants of which the biggest haul was more than 700 plants in one Ripley County location.


SIKESTON - Finally, riding the best fourth quarter effort of the season, Sikeston Lady Bulldogs broke a short losing streak and defeated Kennett, 67

-57. Sikeston trailed 46-38 going into the last period, but staged a dramatic turnaround. The Lady Bulldogs outscored Kennett 29-11 to claim the win.
