DEXTER -- James "Sonny" Hatchel, 64, died Oct. 8, 2007, at the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.

Born Nov. 23, 1942, at Charter Oak, son of the late Orval and Mable Hatchel Hudgens, he was a retired truck driver for the Southeast Co-Op, a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam and a member of the Morley VFW.

On Dec. 17, 1970, in Sikeston, he married Donna Welch who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one stepson, Donald Welch of Bloomfield; two brothers, Larry Hudgens of Simmesport, La., and Dan Hudgens of Dexter; one sister, Linda Mayberry of Republic; and one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.

One brother, Rick Hudgens, preceded him in death.

Visitation is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. Graveside services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Dexter Cemetery.
