NEW HAMBURG -- The search continues today for the assailant in a knife fight, which left one person recovering from a stab wound.
Early Sunday, according to a news release from the Scott County Sheriff's Department, a fight broke out at Schindler's Tavern. Witnesses at the scene told investigators an estimated crowd of 60 people were inside the building when the fight began.
About 40 of the patrons went outside, where the fight continued. The release said the 19-year-old victim didn't realize he had been stabbed until he collapsed on the gravel parking lot. His name had not been released as of this morning.
When the man collapsed, the crowd quickly disbursed.
A witness called the sheriff's department about 15 minutes after the fight occurred. Within a few minutes of the call, officers responded, finding the patron who had suffered a stab wound from the fight.
No one could identify who wielded the knife, however detectives continue to interview more of the tavern patrons in an attempt to identify the suspect.
The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Sheriff Rick Walter said the incident is still under investigation. Those who were at the scene are still being interviewed. He noted that a majority of those involved were not local, which makes the investigation a bit more difficult.
