Mack Racing team preparing for Rettig Cup in Malden

Friday, October 7, 2005

BENTON -- The Mack Racing, Inc. team and driver Joey Mack are heading down the homestretch of the 2005 racing season, as they enter the month of October.

Most of the month is up in the air for the Benton based team, as they will wait and see what events to attend as the weather turns cooler. One race that is for certain is this coming weekend's 'Nathan Rettig Memorial Cotton Bowl Cup' event at the Malden Speedway in Malden.

The unsanctioned event will feature a $4,000 payday to the winner of the Dirt Late Model feature race. A practice session will be held this Thursday evening, with all of the racing action set to take place on Friday and Saturday. For more information concerning this event, point your web browser to www.maldenspeedway.com.

The month of September was an extremely successful one for the Mack Racing, Inc. team. Joey was able to pick up one feature victory and five additional Top Five finishes. The lone victory of the month came on Sept. 3 at the North Mississippi Motor Park in Corinth, Miss. Joey was able to best a stellar field of late models to capture the $2,500 top prize.

Also in the month of September, the Stacker2 Mid-America Racing Series (MARS) season came to a close at the I-44 Speedway in Lebanon. Joey's 17th place finish in the $10,000 to win event earned him the 11th spot in the year-long points battle, despite choosing to skip several events on the 2005 schedule.

"We have had a pretty good stretch of finishes in the last month or so," said Mack. "At Malden last Friday, I was able to get second and then we finished fifth on Saturday at Poplar Bluff. It was hard to pass at Poplar Bluff, but I was able to get by four cars in the course of the race. Our team is really gearing up for the big race at Malden this weekend.

"We have run at Malden quite a bit this year and this is their biggest show. Then after Malden, I am not real sure what we are going to do the rest of the year. There are some races that we can hit, but the weather will start to play a factor as we get later into October."

The Mack Racing, Inc. team has amassed 10 victories, 22 Top Five finishes, and 28 Top Ten runs in the 45 events that they have entered this season. In the 18 MARS events that the team attended in 2005, Joey registered two Top Five efforts and five Top Ten performances.
