NEW MADRID -- The New Madrid County Middle School football team is one game closer to going undefeated and unscored on in their 7th and 8th grade careers with an impressive victory over Cape Central Tuesday afternoon 46
The Eagles' Rodney Anderson took the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown.
Quarterback Dontre' Jenkins converted one of his four 2-point conversions. Jenkins also had a 15-yard touchdown.
Lennies McFerren scored on the Eagles' second possession on a 21-yard run and later in the 3rd quarter on a 10 yard gallop.
Anderson bounced outside for a 33 yard TD run as the Eagles' tried to run out the clock. Shelby Comer stepped up again with a 2 point conversion and Austin Meese, mostly used as a blocker in the backfield, powered in for a 1yard score.
The shutout was Central's fifth of the season and pushes their string of scoreless quarters to over 30 dating back to the 7th grade. This special group is full of role players who understand how to help the team dominate. The offensive line, made up of Anthony Maltbia, Matt Hunter, Jake Kimball, Travis Turrentine, Alex Ginther and Larry Tindle opened huge holes for all of the backs and dominated the line of scrimmage. The final test for this promising bunch will be next Thursday at 5:00 when they travel to Dexter.
