SIKESTON - Movie Gallery Inc. has made a $100,000 donation to the American Red Cross to support disaster assistance and humanitarian relief efforts in connection with Hurricane Katrina.

Movie Gallery is also encouraging the general public to donate to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund through its 4,700 store locations will accept customer cash donations through Sept. 30.

"We are deeply concerned about the tragedy and devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina," said Joe Malugen, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Movie Gallery. "... And we want to do our part in supporting the relief efforts. We invite everyone to help the hurricane's victims and their affected communities by making a donation."

In Sikeston, Movie Gallery is located at 220 S. Main St.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Local Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar restaurants across the country are selling "Applebee's Supports the American Red Cross" paper fund-raiser fliers to guests for $1, with all proceeds going directly to the American Red Cross to aid hurricane victims.

Guests may purchase the paper fliers from any Applebee's associate at the restaurant, with the $1 being added to the guest's check. Additional donations from guests also will be accepted.

In Sikeston, Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar is located at 1260 S. Main St.

NEW MADRID - Kontek Industries announced today that they have received a $1 million contract to provide three mobile sniper training towers for the United States Marine Corps.

"We are very pleased to be providing this important service to the Marine Corps," said Don Utz, president of Kontek. "It makes us proud to play a part in helping train the men and women that protect our great country everyday."

The towers will be used for training Scout Snipers involved in the Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT) program. This contract further amplifies Kontek's highly regarded reputation for the highest level of physical security and force protection products and expertise

MINER - Rebecca Hodgkiss, a restorative nurse aide, was selected as "Employee of the Month" at Miner Nursing Center.

Hodgkiss was nominated and selected by her co-workers and supervisors for the honor. Citing her excellent work in the restorative program for the Miner Nursing Center for the past two years, her nominators also noted "she is a great restorative aide, is very good with the residents and has a positive attitude."
