GIDEON - Gideon Care Center administrator Doran Vancil is the Missouri Health Care Association's "Administrator of the Year" for 2005.
Vancil was presented the award from the Missouri Health Care Association during the Presidential Banquet hosted at Tan Tara Resorts. Nominated by the staff at Gideon Care Center, Susie Burnett, Gideon Care Center's laundry supervisor wrote an essay expressing their respect and admiration for Vancil. Vancil was honored again when he returned to Gideon.
The staff, residents and community went all out to congratulate him. Balloons were placed along Main Street leading up to the facility. Vancil's car was stopped by local law enforcement officers who then provided an escort to the care center.
At the facility, residents, staff members and community representatives welcomed him with songs and a balloon launch. The Gideon Bulldog Marching Band performed in his honor.
A reception was attended by residents, staff, family and friends. At the reception Vancil and his wife, Wanda, heard emotional words of praise from daughter, Angela Jones, R.N., director of nursing and in-home service director; Tammy Loughary, and insurance agent Lynn Woolverton. The Rev. Kelly Reed of the First Baptist Church of Gideon performed for the guests.
Vancil was presented with a Star Award from the residents, an appreciation clock for his desk from his staff and residents and a host of other cards and flowers. Congratulations of those unable to attend including a letter from State Representative Otto Bean, Jr. were read.
