CLARKTON - The Risco Tigers basketball team lost in the first round of the Clarkton Christmas Tournament to the host school, 81-66.
Clarkton led 33-29 at halftime and Risco head coach Brandon Blankenship was happy with his team's effort in the first half.
"We played some good defense in the first half," said Blankenship. "We also hit the boards and held our own on the rebounding side."
While the first half was a time for guarded optimism, the second half for Risco was one of unfulfilled promise.
Clarkton outscored the Tigers 21-13 in the third quarter and 27-24 in the fourth, to ease to the final score of 81-66.
"We came out flat in the second half," said Blakenship. "Clarkton made three 3-pointers and our guys fouled them on two 3-point attempts in the second half. The key to the game was that Andrew (Halford) failed to get to the free-
throw line. That was a little surprising to see."
Freshman Dustin Ferguson led the Reindeer attack with 24 points. Ferguson scored 14 of his points from the charity stripe.
Steven White scored 13 points. While Matt Trudell and Michael White each hit double-digits with 12 and 10 points respectfully.
Halford led Risco with 18 points. Robert Fowler scored 14 points from his forward position.
In the backcourt for Risco, Ricky Davis and Brice Earnheart scored 11 and 10 points each.
Risco (2-4) will play in the consolation bracket of the tournament as they will meet Holcomb at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
Steven Dooley led Chaffee with 23 points in a road win. Andy Hendrix added 18 points for the Red Devils (2-2), Augi Orr scored 13 and Aaron Hopkins had 10.
Courtney Glastetter scored a game-high 25 points to lead Woodland to victory at home. Francee VanGennip added 15 points for Woodland (3-2) and Tasha Lincoln had 14. Linda Thomure led East Prairie with 15 points.
