SIKESTON -- A Sikeston man is in custody after being arrested on traffic and drug charges following a high-speed pursuit.
The chase began at about 8:20 p.m. Thursday around Smith Street after a Department of Public Safety officer attempted to pull a white Buick over for a traffic violation.
"He wouldn't stop and proceeded through town at a high rate of speed disregarding red lights and stop signs," said Capt. John Martin of the DPS.
The vehicle headed west on Malone, turned left on Route FF to Highway 60, and then right on Highway 60 to head west toward Dexter.
The pursuit was terminated by using stop strips at the 1-mile marker with assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Dexter Police Department.
"There were no injuries, thankfully," Martin said.
The suspect's name is being withheld pending the filing of formal charges.
Pending charges filed in Scott, New Madrid and Stoddard counties include multiple traffic violations, assault of a police officer, resisting arrest and possession of cocaine.
