JACKSON -- The Sikeston freshman basketball team defeated Jackson's B team 44-12 in the Jackson Ninth Grade Tournament on Wednesday.
Sikeston (12-3) plays the winner of the Jackson-New Madrid County Central game tonight at 6:30 p.m.
Sikeston led 13-4 after one quarter and 23-4 at halftime. They put the game away even further in the third quarter with a 36-10 advantage.
Demetrious Jackson and Dominic Fondon each had eight points to lead the Bulldogs.
Richard Andrews and Jake Pratcher each chipped in with seven points.
The Sikeston 8th grade basketball team avenged its only loss this season with a 57-22 win against Cape Central in the Jackson Eighth Grade Tournament. It marks the third time this year they've defeated the Tigers' 8th graders.
Sikeston was led by Eli Jackson's 16 points and Jerian Wims' 14 points. Jaqualin Wiggins only scored four points but added numerous assists for the Bulldogs.
"This is one of the most complete games we've played," said Sikeston coach Kevin Self. "I knew they would be ready for Cape. Losing to them last week bothered them quite a bit because they really wanted to go undefeated. So they wanted to let Cape know that it was a fluke."
Sikeston, now 11-1, plays Jackson at 7:15 p.m. tonight in the championship game.
