Sikeston has lots to offer

Sunday, May 7, 2006

The Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce has several projects in the works. After the Ed Nunnelee Memorial Tennis Tournament and the Sikeston Jaycees host their Second Annual Professional Bull Riding Competition the weekend of June 2, 3 and 4, Miller Spectacular Shows will move in with Springfest beginning June 6 and running through the 10th at the Sikeston Jaycee Rodeo grounds. Wrist band nights are Tuesday, June 6, and Thursday, June 8, and can be purchased in advance at the Chamber office.

A new event for SACC is the "Rodeo Run" which is a 5K run/walk that will take place on Saturday, Aug. 5, at 7:30 a.m. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund. The "Rodeo Run" will be completed just in time for the 54th Annual Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo Parade that begins at 10 a.m. The Jaycees will be hosting a petting zoo and fish fry after the parade at the rodeo grounds. Even if you don't run or jog, come on out and walk the 3.1 mile course, get a T-shirt and stick around for the parade and after-parade activities.

The Depot will be hosting their Second Annual "Cowboy Up" festival the weekend of the rodeo, Aug. 10-13. There will be food, crafts, artists and entertainment with the Historic Midtown Development Group hosting on Saturday "Lunch with the Rodeo Clowns," a Sikeston tradition for 25 years.

The Chamber will be hosting the next activity in September with the Redneck Barbecue taking place Sept. 15 and 16. This year's barbecue competition will be Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned and will feature local and out-of-

state cooking teams. The Sikeston Jaycees will be hosting their Second Annual Car Show at Rotary Park that same weekend with many great looking cars on display.

Starting with an exhibition game on May 30 and running throughout the summer the Sikeston Bulls will be playing baseball at VFW Memorial Stadium in Sikeston. For game information go to our Website at www.sikeston.net or the Bulls' Website at www.sikestonbulls.com.

Who says there is nothing to do in Sikeston? You will see more information over the weeks and months to come. In the meantime for more information you can contact the Chamber at 573-471-2498 or go to our Website at www.sikeston.net.

Congratulations to our member article winner for the March newsletter, Diane Hasler at Legacy Hospice Inc. and our April newsletter winner Debbie Glenn with Manpower.
