SIKESTON - Gilbert Clinton, well known Sikeston restaurant operator, announced that he is now operating the Homestead Hotel and dining room. He invites all his former customers and friends to call on him.

LILBOURN - Further organizational steps were taken this week by the fledgling Lilbourn Jaycees in the form of a chapter constitution and the passing of bylaws. The next step for the Lilbourn club will be to make formal application for chapter.


SIKESTON - Ronald Lee, city collector, reported that his office collected $282,047 in taxes for the year.

SIKESTON - Every three months, Dr. G. Wendell Weathers, a Sikeston dentist, conducts a drawing and gives away a stuffed toy animal to young patients. This month's winner was Kimberly Vance of Oran. She received a Huggit Bear, a bear that hugs you back when you hug it.

NEW MADRID - A $500 reward is being offered by the city council in an effort to learn the identity of those involved with arson at a city park. According to Police Chief Denson Taylor, a fire at the concession stand at the baseball park on Davis Street was discovered about 1:30 a.m. Jan 1 by officers, who smelled smoke as they were driving by the concession stand during routine patrol. Someone had entered the building and started two separate fires using rags and debris


SIKESTON - As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, five people have filed for a seat on the Sikeston Public School Board. They include: Randy Bohannon, Ellen Brandom, Charlotte York, the Rev. Charles Buck and Louis Wiggins.


SIKESTON - An evening of music, featuring the United States Air Force Air Mobility Command Band, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan 31 at the Sikeston Fieldhouse.
