Man arrested for sexual abuse

Thursday, March 6, 2008

Michael Donahue was charged with 8 counts of statatory sodomy
BENTON -- A physical defect on a Cape Girardeau man's hand ultimately led to his arrest for conducting illegal sexual activities with an 8-year-old child.

According to a Scott County Sheriff's Department news release, Michael Donahue, 55, of Cape Girardeau is charged with eight counts of statutory sodomy in the first degree.

Sheriff Rick Walter said the investigation began in October 2007 when a concerned landlord found inappropriate photographs of a young child in a Scott County rental home he was cleaning after the tenants moved out and turned the photos into the sheriff's office.

Over the course of the next five months, investigators interviewed several people in hopes of finding the person or persons responsible for producing the inappropriate photos. They were led to Donahue, who was a previous tenant of the residence where the photos were found. After investigators pointed out to Donahue a physical defect on one of his hands matched with a hand in one of the photos, Donahue admitted to taking them. During the interview with authorities, Donahue allegedly admitted to eight separate incidents involving the same victim in Scott City between June and July 2007.

Walter said federal authorities have been contacted and are reviewing the case. Donahaue remains in jail with bond set at $150,000 cash.
