ST. LOUIS - James Cato, 80, died Dec. 23, 2007, at St. Alexius Hospital in St. Louis.
Born Sept. 13, 1927, at Greenbriar, to the late Sylvester and Leona Bennett Cato, he had lived in Kinder until moving to St. Louis in 1951. He was retired from McCabe-Powers Body in St. Louis, where he worked as a machine operator for 33 years.
On Nov. 6, 1948, in Bloomfield, he married Essye Mae Watson, who preceded him in death on March 4, 2005.
Three brothers, Paul Cato, Truman Cato and Hadley Cato; and one sister, Pearlene Cato, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Penny Cato of St. Louis and Larry and Bell Cato of Cibola, Texas; four daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Robert Engier, Barbara and Allen Seaton, LeDeana and Bob Stahl and LeDonna Cato, all of St. Louis; one brother, Winford Cato of Bloomfield; and eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. tonight at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday. Dale Holman of Sturdivant will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Brush Creek Cemetery, near Arab.
