SIKESTON - Vance Engram of Sikeston is today announcing his candidacy for the office of city collector for Sikeston.

CHARLESTON - The Charleston R-1 District may have to approve a $1,400,000 bond issue for a new high school building in a second election because the bonds are invalid. The school board will meet at 1 p.m. this afternoon to decide the future course.


SIKESTON - The 52-voice community choir will present its annual spring concert Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Junior High School auditorium.

SIKESTON - Margaret Kelly, state auditor, was in the Sikeston area Friday discussing issues with residents and attending community functions. In an interview with The Daily Standard, she discussed the current audit of the Missouri Department of Higher Education. "I've been rather disappointed by the officials' responses to the audit - they seemed rather arrogant about it all," she said. She discovered that the department was not monitoring its own funds and had charged about $900,000 of its costs to federal grants over a two-year period.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce has announced plans to film a promotional video of the community. Steve McPheeters, SACC director, hopes the film receives two thumbs up from industrial prospects, visitors and residents alike. Bill Green, Sikeston's economic developer, called the video an important tool in bringing industry here.


SIKESTON - Bootheel Custom Trailers Inc. donated a 5 by 10 tilt trailer to the Kenny Rogers Cerebral Palsy Center Auction in honor of J.R. Robinson, who attends the Center. The CP Telethon will be Saturday and Sunday with the auction at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Sikeston Field House.
