Born May 5, 1961, in Peoria, Ill., son of Delores Blankenship Hurst of Dexter and the late Henry Edward Hurst, he was employed for nine years with Hampton's Farm and a member of the Dexter Eagles 4062.
On Feb. 12, 2005, at Dexter, he married Ruth Lumsden, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons, Douglas Edward Hurst Jr. of Bloomfield and Cody Matthew Hurst of Hot Springs, Ark.; two stepsons, Billy Estes Howdeshell of the state of Washington and Barry Allan Blevins of Dexter; three stepdaughters, Jennifer Leigh Blevins and Rachel Lynn Woods, both of Dexter and Gena Marie Howdeshell of Charleston, S.C.; one brother, Chris Hurst of Parma; five sisters, Kathy Lindsey of Medina, Ohio, Joyce McIllwaim of Jackson, Tenn., Lisa Pennington of Puxico and Trish Williams and Charity Hurst, both of Dexter; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Tim Russell officiating.
