DEXTER - Maria Anita Rikard, 84, died Jan. 4, 2006, at her home.
Born June 26, 1921, in St. Louis, daughter of the late Jose and Celestina Garcia Gonzalez, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter and had owned the L and M Supermarket in Dexter with her husband. A member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 311 in Dexter, where she served as a Worthy Matron, she was also a professional softball player and had played shortstop for various St. Louis teams.
On Jan. 26, 1940, at St. Louis, she married Lloyd O. Rikard, who preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1988.
Two brothers, Joe Gonzalez and Mike Gonzales and three sisters, Sarah Breidenbach, Jovita Williams and Helena Stolsek also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: one daughter, Alicia White of Eden Prairie, Minn.; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of an Eastern Star service at 2 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will immediately follow with the Rev. Kevin Chenoweth officiating.
Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
