MOREHOUSE -- A state fire marshal was called in after a Morehouse storage unit was destroyed in a weekend blaze.
According to Morehouse Police Chief Jack Hays, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a fire at a storage unit located behind Front Street Market in Morehouse.
Fire fighters battled the blaze for about an hour and a half and left the scene around 1 a.m. Saturday, he said.
No injuries were reported, Hays said. The unit, which is owned by Linda Neal of Morehouse, was a total loss.
The cause of the fire was undetermined at press time, and the state fire marshal was scheduled to investigate the scene sometime Saturday. Hays said calling in the fire marshal is routine with fires involving businesses. Sikeston, Matthews, Canalou, Vanduser, Dexter and Scott County Rural fire departments also responded to the scene.
