PORTAGEVILLE - Sarah Jean Howard Adams, 91, died Dec. 20, 2005, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
Born July 2, 1914, in Cape Girardeau, the daughter of Leo R. and Lottie Ates Howard, she grew up in the Gravel Hill community, near Burfordville, and was a 1932 Jackson High School graduate. She was a 1933 graduate of the Cape Girardeau School of Beauty Culture and moved to Portageville to work at the Harris Beauty Shop. She later purchased The Central Beauty Shop and operated the business out of her home for over 30 years. She was a member of the Portageville United Methodist Church, taught Sunday School and was the church financial secretary for several years. In 1999, she moved to the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
On July 7, 1937, in Sikeston, she married Julius Jefferson "Doodle" Adams, who preceded her in death.
One brother and one sister also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: three sons and two daughters-in-law, Howard J. and Carol Adams of Poplar Bluff, Jerry L. and Marilyn Adams of Bishopville, S.C., and John Richard "Rick" Adams of Glasgow, Ky.; one daughter and son-in-law, Julia Jean and Richard Combs of Jackson; 10 grandchildren and six great-
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Portageville with Rev. Richard Combs and Rev. Sharon Howard officiating.
Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
