SIKESTON - The Rev. F. Edward Watson, pastor of the Hunter Memorial Presbyterian Church for six years, announced yesterday from the pulpit his resignation effective Oct. 30. The Rev. Watson will be going to Texas.

SIKESTON - A fall flower show will be presented Saturday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the high school.

SIKESTON - Between 100 - 200 people are expected in Sikeston this weekend for the NAACP State Convention. This will be the first time the state convention of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has been held in Sikeston, according to Francis Blisset, president of the Sikeston branch of this organization.

MINER - For a third time in two days, Sikeston and Miner fire personnel battled a blaze in the area. A building at Jerry James Trailers on East Malone was destroyed by a fire reported at approximately 1:45 p.m. Monday by the company's secretary.

SIKESTON - J.C., a 6-year-old Capuchin monkey from South America, disappeared from the Matthews family home about a month ago. J.C.'s owner, Margaret Matthews, said, "The dog has stopped eating and won't play. It has been over a month and we are beginning to worry about it."

SIKESTON - Lizzie Barkett, the daughter of Phil and Jan Barkett, was crowned Fall Homecoming Queen Friday at the annual dance after Sikeston's victory over Marion.

CHARLESTON - Mississippi County Sheriff Larry Turley and his staff will be presenting self defense strategy courses for women at 7 p.m.
