Longtime Scott County officeholder, sheriff's deputy Gerald Inman dies

SIKESTON - Former Scott County Assessor Gerald Allen Inman died at 10:21 p.m. Oct. 7, 2005, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was 72.

Born June 26, 1933, in Sikeston, son of the late Ernest and Nancy Katherine "Dimple" Brown Inman, he served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sikeston. A Scott County deputy sheriff for Sheriff John Dennis for many years, he served 18 years as the Scott County assessor. He was a member of the Sikeston Jaycees and for 47 years, worked at the front gate of the rodeo grounds. Also he was a member of the Sikeston Elks Lodge and served as a Democratic election judge at Sikeston voting precincts.

He is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law, Gerald Allen "Gerry" and Lela Inman Jr. of Sikeston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and John Story of Charleston and Laurie and Tom Ryan of Sikeston; one brother, E.R. "Dick" Inman of Sikeston; and 10 grandchildren, Logan Inman, Katherine Inman, Cody Ryan, Drew Ryan, Lauren Ryan, Jeremy Ryan and Matthew Ryan of Sikeston, Ashley Drury of Naples, Fla., and Dylan Drury and Court Story of Charleston.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Geoff Posegate of the First United Methodist Church will officiate.

Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
