CHARLESTON - Loretta Carr Gier, 83, died at 2:15 p.m., Feb. 10, 2006, at the Mary Mount Manor in Eureka.
Born May 24, 1922, in Charleston, to the late Leo Sylvester and Maude Perkins Carr, she had lived her entire life in Charleston, where she was employed with Brown Shoe Company, until her retirement, and a member of St. Henry Catholic Church.
On Sept. 5, 1943, she married Lawrence Jewell Gier, who preceded her in death on Oct. 21, 1973.
One son, Daniel James Gier; one daughter, Leanne Gier Jones; four brothers, Edward Carr, David Carr, William Carr and Robert Carr; and two sisters, Catherine Baker and an infant sister, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: one son, Larry Gier of Fenton; one daughter, Maureen Johnson of Troutdale, Va.; three brothers, Fred Carr of St. Louis, James Carr of Columbia and Glennon Carr of Tampa, Fla.; three sisters, Dorothy Wadley of St. Louis, Virginia Lynch and Ruth Ann Telker, both of Charleston; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston with the Rev. Scott Sunnenberg, pastor of St. Henry Catholic Church, and Monsignor Richard Rolwing, Senior Priest in Residence at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sikeston, serving as Celebrants.
Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: John Bridges, David Bridges, Bryan Gier, Omar Hadi, Max "Doc" Michael Jr. and Ronnie Michael.
Honorary pallbearers will be: James E. and Margie Sisk, Ted Pierceall and Juanita Cherry.
