PUXICO -- Carrie Ward Sutter, 83, died Dec. 16, 2005, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born Sept. 27, 1922, near Wappapello, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Lillie Jines Ward. She had lived in Puxico, where she and her husband owned and operated the Puxico Mercantile, until to moving to Cape Girardeau in 1994. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Puxico, the Puxico Eastern Star and had served for many years as a den mother for the Cub Scout program.
On May 5, 1947, she married Alton Sutter who preceded her in death on May 16, 2002.
Also preceding her in death were: six brothers, Frank Ward, Tom Ward, Leffie Ward, Raymond Ward, Floyd Ward and Roscoe Ward; two sisters, Octie Snow and Stella West; and one grandson, Thomas Sutter.
Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen A. and Gale Sutter of Puxico and Douglas W. and Colleen Sutter of Erie, Penn.; two sisters, Opal Ward of Puxico and Copal Fronabarger of St. Peters; and one granddaughter, Nicole Sutter.
Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today with an Eastern Star service to follow at 7 p.m. at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico where funeral services will be held a 10 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Wiley McGhee of Puxico will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Puxico Cemetery.
