SIKESTON - Creation of a plumbers examiners board, a brief report on the city's comprehensive plan and extra help to guard the Sikeston Compress from arsonists were discussed at the Monday night City Council meeting.

SIKESTON - The 1987 Little Mr. and Miss Western contest was conducted Wednesday evening in the Kingsway Mall. Jon Tyler Myrick, 4-year-old son of Harold Joe and Darla Myrick of Sikeston, and 6-year-old Whitney Wade, daughter of Mark and Sherrie Wade of New Madrid, were crowned Little Mr. and Miss Western.

SIKESTON - James Wilder, Sikeston High School football standout, University of Missouri rushing star and NFL running back for 12 years, has announced the First James Wilder Celebrity Sports Legend Weekend will be held in Sikeston Sept. 13-15. The event will consist of a Celebrity and Sponsors Welcome Party, a basketball game and a golf classic. Wilder, who was in Sikeston with former Dallas Cowboys running back Ron Springs, provided information on the event at a news conference at the Ramada Inn Monday. Many football legends are expected to participate in the gala weekend event.


SIKESTON - Using a sonar-operated device, Sikeston Light and Water is boring a hole for a pipe to be put three feet under a creek in the complex so it won't freeze during cold weather.


BLODGETT - Roy and Teresa Gross of Blodgett recently won Trucker's Connection's third annual Great Mid-America Off-Road Sweepstakes for 1997. The local couple won the 1997 black Dodge Ram pickup and the Honda Fourtrax ATV at the Mid-America Show in March. They were flown to pick up their prizes from the Trucker's Connection's headquarters in Atlanta.
