Sikeston softball bounces back to thrash Egyptian

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs softball team cruised to a 13-0 victory over visiting Egyptian, Ill. on Wednesday at the Sikeston Complex.

The return of Allison Blurton at designated hitter put back some pep in the Lady Bulldogs bats as they banged out 11 hits on the afternoon.

"Alli brings in senior leadership that is key to our team," said Sikeston head coach Tiffany King. "Of course with her stick in the lineup we are a more dangerous hitting team."

On the day, Blurton went 3-for-3 with an RBI and blasted a triple to left field.

Sikeston started off the game by scoring five runs in their half of the first inning as Sikeston would bat around in the batting order. Blurton and Erin Wibbenmeyer would drive in runs for the Lady Bulldogs.

In the bottom of the second inning, Sikeston would once again bat around as Wibbenmeyer and Ally Friend would produce run-scoring singles for the Lady Bulldogs.

Sikeston would tack on two runs apiece in the third and fourth innings as Egyptian, Ill. had problems all game in the field and committed four errors in the shortened contest.

The 10-run mercy rule would take effect in the fifth inning as Sikeston would pound Egyptian, Ill. 13-0.

Besides Blurton's offensive production, Wibbenmeyer went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Molly Brinkmeyer would also go 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and a walk.

Kaycie Williams, Elizabeth Heeb, Alyson Friend and Ashley Kalina would all tally singles for Sikeston.

Brinkmeyer would complete five innings for the Lady Bulldogs striking out eight, gave up only two hits and walked one.

For Egyptian, Ill., Michelle Sisson and Samantha Tucker collected the only hits for the Pharaohs.

The Lady Bulldogs will have a few days to rest until next Monday when they host the Lady Red Devils from Chaffee. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Sikeston Complex.
