SIKESTON - Mrs. George Hensley honored her husband Monday night by giving a supper at their home near Sikeston in celebration of his birth anniversary.

SIKESTON - First place for the comical float division of the Cotton Carnival parade was the Showboat scene of the Business and Professional Women's Club of Sikeston. First place winner in the civic class was Cinderella and her golden slipper float, sponsored by the Sikeston Junior Women's Club.

SIKESTON -Elizabeth Kenser, 6-year-old daughter of Mr. and Fred Kenser of Route Two, Sikeston, and Chris Pinkerton, 4-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Pinkerton of 104 Charles Lane, were crowned Cotton Top King and Queen Wednesday evening at the Chaney-Harris Cultural Center. The event is held annually in conjunction with the American Legion Cotton Carnival.

SIKESTON - The goal, past and present, of the Sikeston Missouri Arts Inc. is to bring quality arts into Sikeston. Ann Jones, part-time administrator, said local residents should welcome the groups slated for this year.


EAST PRAIRIE - Applications for a new police officer are currently being taken and a decision on the hiring of the new officer, funded through the Office of Community Policing Services in Washington, D.C., is expected within two weeks, according to Police Chief Richard Gregory. The city recently received news of a $47,287 grant from COPS. A new officer and monetary assistance with the purchase of new equipment will be realized from the check from the U.S. Marshal's office.
