CAPE GIRARDEAU -- James Mawery, 38, died Jan. 17, 2006, at Southeast Hospital.
Born April 14, 1966, in St. Louis, he was raised by Bertha Jones and Lossie Wilford of Salcedo and the late James Wilford from age 3-11 and then by Marian Walker of Cape Girardeau from age 13 until adulthood. After graduating from Cape Central High School in 1985, he entered the U.S. Navy. Following his brief military career, he returned to Cape Girardeau. He was a member of the House of Prayer in Cape Girardeau and played music for many churches.
In addition to his foster parents, survivors include: one son, James Andrea Mawrey of Cape Girardeau; one brother, Mark Mawrey of St. Louis; three foster brother Kenneth Wright of Kansas City, Mo., Derrick Wright of Los Angeles, Nicky Wright of St. Louis and Mareno Jones of Sikeston; and five foster sisters, Sarah Walker of Cape Girardeau, Magdalene Wilford and Dione Blissett of Sikeston, Glenda Hunt of Los Angeles and Lisa Hunt of Omaha, Neb.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Divine Temple near Morley with Joann McCauley, pastor of the House of Prayer, officiating.
