SIKESTON - Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and the Sikeston United Way announced Friday the formation of a communitywide volunteer awards program. The Bell Volunteer Awards are designed for the grassroots volunteers who serve Sikeston with a continuing gift of time rather than a specialized skill, according to Mark Walker, community relations manager for Southwestern Bell.
SIKESTON - A man was shot in a drive-by shooting at approximately 10:15 a.m. today at a carwash on the corner of Ruth and Southwest streets. The victim reportedly sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg, following several shots fired from a handgun. Unconfirmed reports say at least four shots were fired from a black vehicle. A search was under way immediately after the incident for a suspect described by witnesses.
