LILBOURN - Tom Sloan, 88, died Nov. 28, 2005, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.
Born Jan. 14, 1917, in Hornbeak, Tenn., son of the late Everett L. and Alice Lela Sloan, he was a member of the Church of Christ in Lilbourn. A World War II Army veteran, having served as a German translator, he was a pressman for the SEMO News in Lilbourn and later delivered the Sikeston Standard-
Democrat, St. Louis Post Dispatch and Commercial Appeal newspapers in New Madrid County for 34 years before retiring.
In 1943, he married Retta Alene Leonard who preceded him in death in 1992.
One son, Ricky Sloan; one sister; and one brother also preceded him in death.
Survivors include: two sons, Steve Sloan of Lilbourn and Denny Sloan of Water Lake, Miss.; one daughter, Kathy Fodge of Bloomfield; one sister, Cherry Robinson of Milan, Tenn.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Private graveside services will be scheduled at a later date at the Mounds Park Cemetery near Lilbourn under the direction of Ponder Funeral Home in Lilbourn.
