Woman arrested on drug charges

BENTON -- A Sikeston woman was arrested on drug charges.

According to a news release from the Scott County Sheriff's Department, Shantell Carvey, 18, is charged with possessing a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Sheriff Rick Walter said in the news release that Deputy Jeff Schmitt reported to County Road 517 while on patrol Thursday to check on a stranded motorist.

When Schmitt arrived on the scene, he found Carvey to be in possession of Diazepam, which is a controlled substance, and a metal tobacco grinder that had contained marijuana.

Carvey remains in custody in the Scott County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
