SJHS teams sweep P.B.

SIKESTON -- For the second time in 11 days, the Sikeston eighth and ninth grade basketball teams swept the Poplar Bluff Mules junior high teams on Monday night at the Sikeston Field House.

In the ninth grade game, Sikeston (3-1) fell behind 13-8 after one quarter and 29-21 at halftime.

But the team dominated the second half, out-scoring Poplar Bluff 18-7 in the third quarter to take a 39-36 lead.

Sikeston put the game away in the fourth quarter with a 14-11 run.

Sikeston was led by Dominic Fondon's 18 points. Richard Andrews followed up with 16 points.

Burlington led Poplar Bluff with 16 points and Placker added 12 points.

In the eighth grade game, Sikeston (4-0) took an 11-3 first quarter lead but they never could shake the pesky Mules.

Sikeston still led 21-13 at halftime but Poplar Bluff rallied to cut the lead to 27-23 heading into the fourth quarter.

They got as close as two points but couldn't overtake the Bulldogs.

Sikeston was led by Jaqualin Wiggins' 12 points.

Eli Jackson had 10 points. Niquavious Dixon and Dwayne Harris each chipped in with five points.

Lee Abraham led Poplar Bluff with 11 points.
