SHS grapplers win one of five at Dual

FARMINGTON -- The Sikeston High School wrestling team competed in the First Bank Farmington Dual Meet on Saturday.

As a team, Sikeston, with only eight wrestlers available, won one and lost four in dual competition.

The Bulldogs defeated Herculaneum 45-24, then lost to Farmington 10-66, Parkway Central 27-54, St. Clair 27-54 and Webster Groves 24-60.

Gavilan Bland was the top Bulldog point-getter with a perfect record of five wins against no losses in the 152-pound class. Two of his victories were scored on come-from-behind takedowns in the waning seconds.

Chris Northern, a 189-pounder, won four of five matches as did heavyweight Josh Northern.

Craig Burton, in the 125-pound class, also won four of five matches. His lone loss was to the USA National Cadet Freestyle champion Craig Wilson of Farmington.

Jordan Mays won three of five matches in the 103-pound weight class.

Chaz Marshall, in the 130-pound class, went 2-3; Ashton Cantrell, a 135 pounder, went 1-4; and 119-pound Garrett Wagner also went 1-4.

Next up for Sikeston is the Cape Central Tiger Classic on Friday and Saturday.
