SIKESTON - Workmen have been engaged for the past weeks in putting new siding on the main building of Mill A of the Scott County Milling Co.

LILBOURN - Seven students were awarded college scholarships and 39 were recipients of high school grants at the Delmo Housing Corporation's annual meeting.

SIKESTON - The Rev. E.D. Owen, Cape Girardeau retired Baptist minister, has been named interim pastor of the newly formed Trinity Baptist Church in Sikeston. He replaces Dr. Tom Messer, also of Cape Girardeau, who had served since the founding of the church

SIKESTON - Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) erected mock grave sites in front of Sikeston Senior High School Saturday morning as part of a project to warn students of the dangers of driving drunk on prom night. Contracts were distributed for students and parents to sign agreeing that the parent would pick up the child if he/she became intoxicated and that the student would call if the situation occurred.

BERTRAND - Max Davidson will appear in "North and South Book II," the 12-

hour ABC miniseries which starts tonight. The Bertrand resident helped prime a cannon for the Union Army in three different battle scenes - Bull Run, Devil's Den and the Siege of Atlanta.

SIKESTON - Public Safety Chief Jim Leist presented John Nettler with a certificate and patch for graduation from the first Sikeston Citizen's Police/

Fire Academy on Thursday evening. Nettler was one of 29 graduates to receive the honor and to take part in the academy.

KENNETT - In the game of baseball, frustration can turn to elation with just one swing of the bat. For the Sikeston baseball team, that swing came in the form of a three run homer from Eric Shirkey to propel the Bulldogs over the Kennett Indians 3-2, Thursday.
