SIKESTON - Mrs. Mary P. Woodward, field representative for the State Board of Health, who lives in Sikeston, suffered a fractured ankle during the Christmas vacation and is now confined to a hospital at Springfield, Ill.


SIKESTON - Herman Poe returned from the service in the armed forces today and immediately went back to work at the Post Office in Sikeston.

SIKESTON - Sikeston's basketball Bulldogs will be facing a tough assignment against Scott Central's red hot Braves at the Armory tonight. Sikeston enters tonight's encounter well rested from a 53-49 loss to Jackson in the Bulldog's final outing of 1965, Dec. 14, at Jackson.


SIKESTON - Mrs. Cathleen Gipson, county welfare director, announced today that $142,171 was distributed to 1,977 recipients during December. The largest portion went to the elderly, $76,047.

SIKESTON - A Memphis, Tenn. woman attempted to pass a forged prescription for demerol at a local pharmacy Friday, according to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety. Vickie Jackson, 27, was arrested after the personnel of the pharmacy became suspicious of the prescription and denied to fill it. Jackson is presently in Scott County Jail. No bond has been set.

CHARLESTON - The prospect and constructing a new Mississippi County Jail - a proposal that surfaced a couple of weeks ago - dominated discussion Thursday during the County Commission session. Second District Commissioner Martin Lucas said he had received several comments with most being positive.


SIKESTON - Car washes in Sikeston were packed Thursday with car owners wanting to clean the salt and dirt from the recent snowstorm. Billy Freeland, an employee of Cox Family Car Wash, found himself cleaning a continual line of cars for motorists.
