HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Evolee Verneice Thompson, 92, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., died at 9 a.m. Jan. 4, 2006, at the Westwood Medical and Rehab Center in Archdale.
Born Dec. 21, 1913, in McMullin, Mo., daughter of the late Willie Sanford and Donnie Lillie Merrell Thompson, she had worked for many years at the International Shoe Company in Sikeston until she retired.
Surviving is one sister, Alberta Gray Burress of High Point. She is also survived by three nieces: Janet Gray Sims, her caregiver, of Jamestown and Margaret Aileen Fudge and Maxine Shell of Memphis, Tenn.; one nephew, Melvin Thompson of Primm Springs, Tenn. Also surviving are 10 nieces and nephews and 15 great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Thompson, Hazel Thompson, Irene Thompson and Thelma Brashears; and two brothers, Bill Thompson and Harrison Thompson.
Services were conducted Saturday at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home at Greensboro. The body has been returned to the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Oak Grove Cemetery at Charleston, Mo., with the Rev. Kelley Grubbs, pastor of Murray Lane Baptist Church in Sikeston, officiating with local arrangements by Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.
