SIKESTON - The 290 lots in Clayton and Rowe additions were sold at public auction in four hours and 20 minutes Saturday in one of the biggest transactions in the history of Southeast Missouri.
SIKESTON - Ottis Freeman, board of education member from Scott Central school district, said yesterday afternoon during a panel discussion on radio station KMPL that the people of his district felt an injustice in the school reorganizational election Tuesday.
SIKESTON - Sikeston's baseball team travels today to meet the Richland Rebels in the finals of the sub-district tournament. The Bulldogs defeated Bloomfield and Oran in the semifinals, and Richland beat Scott Central and Advance.

JEFFERSON CITY - A pair of bills providing more than $152.5 million for the repair and construction of state buildings throughout the state won approval late Friday by the Missouri Senate. In the process, the Senate also decided to name one of the buildings in honor of veteran Sen. John Dennis (D-Benton). At the request of Senate Pro Tem John Scott (D-St. Louis), the senators voted to name a $10 million multi-purpose recreational building at Southeast Missouri State University after Dennis.
SIKESTON - Sikeston is having a construction boom. "This is the most active time since about six years ago," said Director of Public Works Doug Friend. "We haven't seen this much interest in developing residential properties in Sikeston in years." Friend added that until just recently there were very few lots available to build on in Sikeston.
