CHARLESTON -Chamber of Commerce members met at the Charlestonian for their monthly luncheon session with Wendell Choate as speaker. His topic was "Production and Marketing of Perishable Vegetables."

SIKESTON - The last Optimist Cottonmouth Supercross bicycle race of the 1985 season will be Sunday at the Sikeston Recreational Complex. Track officials are planning the annual awards dinner, which will be in December.


SIKESTON - Ross Conner and Donald Fulton, representing the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of Missouri, presented a $500 donation to the Area 9 Special Olympics Committee. The funds will enable local athletes to compete in local, regional, state and national events.

SIKESTON - Motorcycle safety has become a concern for state authorities. So much that they have initiated a fund to promote safety awareness. In Sikeston, any motorcycle offense that was incurred after the date of Oct. 2, 1995, at which time the Sikeston City Council adopted the ordinance, will be subject to an increase. This additional charge added to court costs will be used to fund and promote motorcycle safety literature and programs.

COLUMBIA - East Prairie out-distanced nine other communities of comparable population to bring home a first place award from the 1995 Missouri Community Betterment program. The announcement came during the 32nd annual awards banquet, concluding the MCB Conference. Lt. Gov. Roger Wilson announced the grand prize. Seven representatives of the city were in attendance at the awards banquet.
