SIKESTON - With the exception of a portion of the west wing roof, all the exterior work on the building to house the Missouri Delta Community Hospital has been finished. The project is expected to be completed by June or July.
SIKESTON - Phoebe Rowe, wife of Burt H. Rowe Sr., was named Woman of the Year last night at the annual banquet in the American Legion Hall. The banquet is sponsored by the Business and Professional Women's Club.
SIKESTON - The 8th Annual Kenny Rogers Cerebral Palsy Telethon was held Saturday and Sunday with the final total of pledges and donations far exceeding the expectations of all those involved. This year's goal of $75,000 was topped with a final total of $91,018.
SIKESTON - The Scott County Central Braves rolled into Springfield this past weekend for the 1A state championships. The Braves captured their eighth state title, fourth in succession and five of the last six, on Saturday night by downing Walnut Grove, 78-53.
LEXINGTON, Va. - The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in June of 1996 that the all-
male admission policy was unconstitutional and the first coed class in the school's 158-year history arrived in the fall of 1997. Also arriving was Todd Anthony, son of Linda and Larry Anthony of Sikeston, who recently returned to his hometown for spring break.
JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Mel Carnahan appointed Sikeston resident David Dolan to fill the vacancy as judge for the 33rd Judicial Circuit for the remaining months of 1998. Tony Heckemeyer resigned the position in February to seek the Democratic nomination for the Eighth District U.S. representative.
