Born Nov. 30, 1922, at Dell, Ark., to the late John William and Kitty Avitts Widner, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Portageville. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a pilot for the U.S. Army Air Corps.
On Oct. 18, 1943, at Piggott, Ark., he married Gwynedene T. McGuire, who preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 2001.
One brother, Dub Widner, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include: two sons and a daughter-in-law, John and Teresa Widner of Portageville and Stephen Widner of San Diego; one brother, David Widner of Columbus, Miss.; two sisters, Lorene Murley of Jonesboro Ark. and Hazel Ensor of Sikeston; and three grandchildren, Thomas and Alison Widner of Portageville and Jonelle Weaver of San Diego.
Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. today at DeLilse Funeral Home in Portageville. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church of Portageville with the Rev. Leland Butler officiating.
Burial with full military rites will follow in the Portageville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Bob Johnson, Donald Joe Johnson, Rodney Starnes, Jonathan Thacker, Shane Foster and Dennis Gamblin.
Honorary pallbearers will be: George Vaughn, Bob Archer, Conway Edwards, Terry Simmons and Tom Womack.
