SIKESTON - Alberta Stephens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Stephens was among the 19 student nurses who received their first caps in a ceremony Feb. 10. Miss Stephens is training at the Julia F. Burmham Hospital in Champaign, Ill.

SIKESTON - High winds which moved through the area Monday night and early Tuesday caused some power outages in Stoddard County and blew tin off a building in downtown Sikeston. The winds also buckled the sign for the former Moore-Dupont Winery at the Benton exit on Interstate 55.

SIKESTON - The Feb. 18th fire that brought a temporary halt to block production at Hedrick Concrete has now been estimated to have caused approximately $750,000 in damages. The oldest of the plant's two block machines suffered the most damage from the blaze while the new block machine experienced only minor damage.
BENTON - Circuit Court Judge Anthony Heckemeyer and his wife Betty announced Monday to a standing room only Scott County Courtroom that he is retiring to enter for the Eighth District Representative. Heckemeyer has held the judge position for the past 17 years; he will be running on the Democratic ticket this November.
CAPE GIRARDEAU - The Sikeston Bulldogs closed out a miserable season with a 79-59 loss to the Farmington Knights in a 4A District 1 match-up.
