CHARLESTON -- Midland GIS Solutions of Sunrise Beach is still waiting on their written apology from the Mississippi County assessor -- an apology that may never come.
During their regular meeting Thursday, Mississippi County commissioners reviewed a letter from Midland GIS Solutions dated Jan. 4 regarding the company's conflict with County Assessor Bill Thompson.
The letter advised commissioners that Midland GIS Solutions had received correspondence dated Nov. 3 which stated "Thompson had agreed to issue a letter of apology to Midland GIS and to further stop making slanderous and derogatory remarks about our company and product."
Midland GIS Solutions is the company which built a geographic information system for the county, a product which displays data overlays such as parcel information in a graphic format over aerial photography maps on computer screens and printed maps.
The letter from Midland GIS Solutions advised that while the company has yet to receive the apology, "If Bill's apology is satisfactory we will notify our attorney to stop the pending legal action against Bill Thompson personally and Mississippi County."
"I have not agreed to anyone to issue a letter of apology," Thompson said when asked about it today. "That would be apologizing for voicing my opinion."
