SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Bulldogs ninth grade boys basketball team was in action Wednesday night, as they took care of the Kelly Hawks, 41-16.
The Bulldogs were able to jump out to an early lead, outscoring the Hawks 16-4 in the first quarter and never looked back.
"I was proud my kids tonight," said Sikeston head coach Chris Sarakas. "Kelly is down a few players this year but I thought we had great effort tonight throughout the game.
"However, it is early in the season and we do have some things we need to work on."
"We didn't shoot the ball as well as I would have liked," said Sarakas. "But our defense played well enough at times to make up for the missed opportunities on the offensive end."
The Bulldogs' defense managed to hold the Hawks' offense to single digit scoring in all four quarters of play.
The Hawks were led by Trey Drury and Kevin Tew who each had five points a piece. Tew made the only 3-pointer for the Hawks. Kelly went 3-7 from the free throw line, with Drury sinking all three.
